Excellent annual water quality rating

The beach is approximately 1 km across, facing west out to the Atlantic Ocean and lies in front of sand dunes and marsh land. This beach picks up the strongest Atlantic swells and as a consequence is extremely popular with surfers. Castlemartin Corse drains land to the east and is the dominant freshwater influence to the bathing water. The beach lies within the Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation and the surrounding area forms part of the Limestone Coast of South West Wales and Castlemartin Corse Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The beach is also located within Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, further highlighting the environmental value of the area. The bathing water sample point lies at the centre of the beach.

Water quality is classified as "Excellent" based on samples taken from the previous 4 years, 2021 through to 2024.
